What is Mummification?
Mummification is any type of bondage that involves wrapping your subject and confining him to any position you choose. It also allows you to experiment with the different aspects of S&M. Holes are sometimes made in the wrapping for access to genitals and other areas. The basic mummification process is fun, easy and inexpensive and one which places the bottom in a situation of powerlessness and sensory deprivation, putting all his faith and trust in the Top, allowing him to enter a word of his own and to forget his problems. The Top derives enjoyment and satisfaction from his sense of total control, from the pleasure he is giving the bottom and from activity he may initiate after the mummification process is complete.

But mummification is a lot more than just wrapping a slave in Ace bandage. A sleep sack is perfect, because it restricts the body, yet keeps him safe. You can use any number of household items to wrap him, such as wide masking tape, plastic wrap or heavy-duty aluminium foil. Duct tape also works, but do not apply it directly to the skin as the glue is too powerful. For long-term wrappings, surgical gauze is perfect because it lets skin breathe. As well as the body, the subject's head can be wrapped in a variety of ways too, but this will add considerably to the time because precautions must be taken including making big holes (small holes might tend to close up) for the nostrils and mouth.

So what's the thrill?
Mummification isn't really like most other types of bondage. It provides the immobility and feeling of submission that other bondage techniques do, but there are added physical and emotional elements that are hard to duplicate any other way. While being mummified, the subject will experience sensory deprivation, as you would in a sensory deprivation tank, although on a somewhat lower level. You feel not restrained, but taken completely out of your body; as though you are floating in some astral plane free from weight, feeling,
sight and sound. Only your essence remains and you become intensely focussed on the few small
sensations that still remain - your heartbeat, your breathing and your inner thoughts.

Beginning the Scene
The most common method of mummifying is with Clingfilm (Saran Wrap). You'll need about 25m or so (avoid cheaper brands which may tear easily as you work) and a few metres of duct tape (the choice of colour is yours - silver, red or black are the common ones). A head mask, two small balls of cotton and an Ace bandage are optional. Ace bandage is good for mummification as it breathes, it is easily washed afterwards and it's economical as it can be used over & over again.

Placing a blindfold first will ensure complete darkness under the wrap, and will prevent the eyes from
opening. If you don't have a blindfold, place a few cotton balls on top of each closed eye and secure with a little medical tape if you wish. Remember throughout that absolute comfort is important in creating the headspace which is required to maximise the experience. If you are looking for a sexually-oriented adventure, this probably won't do it for you. As part of a scene however, it can be extremely effective, so don't rule it out until you've experimented. A bottom's headspace is not quite the same after being released from a good mummification as it was going in, and a good top will use this fact to
his advantage - and of course to create an intense experience for the bottom.

One or two assistants (if available) are welcome tp physically support the bottom while being mummified. The fear of falling is the bottom's greatest fear so great trust between parties must be in place before the Scene commences. The Top must verbally reassure the bottom during the whole process. If you are the only Top present, you have two choices: (1) wrap the bottom down to his thighs, then lie him on a couch (properly positioned nearby) to finish the legs or (2) use a rope (attached to the ceiling) under each armpit to keep him vertically supported near a wall or column. Wrap him, affix him securely to the wall or column, then carefully slide the ropes out. That pressure under the arms cannot be sustained.

Leather and latex wrapping strips are perfect for short-term mummification sessions because they cover a wider area than Ace bandage. Strips come in both an assortment of colours and widths (15cm for the torso, 10cm for arms and 2,5cm for more intricate binding - the cock and balls in particular). Latex strips are best used dusted with talcum powder before use, as they tend to stick together.

Wrapping up the scene
The bottom should stand in a location that allows plenty of room for free all-round movement. Begin by applying the wrap on the arms. The bottom should hold them perpendicular to the body in order to assist. Wrap from the armpit all the way down to the hand, and allow the wrap to extend beyond the ends of the fingers. This will be neatened up later, so just lay the wrap on liberally to begin with.

When the arms are well covered, wrap the chest. Do not simply wrap around the chest itself, but rather,
crisscross the chest and shoulders. Wrap over one shoulder, down across the chest and under the armpit, straight across the back and under the other armpit, up across the chest, over the other shoulder and so on.
Occasionally you should overlap the wrappings that were previously placed around the arms. There should be no gaps. Continue until you have laid several complete layers.

Proceed to wrap the rest of the body in the same manner. Wrap the legs separately before binding them together. As the wrappings go on, the subject will begin to look very much like an Egyptian mummy, hence the term mummification.

Holes can be left - or cut later - in the wrapping at strategic points - usually the cock, balls and tits are left uncovered.

How long should you leave the bottom in mummification?
Mummification is a very intense experience so with a novice, as short a time as 10 to 15 minutes may be enough. Some experienced players like to be left for hours on end but remember anyone so heavily restrained must be constantly supervised. In any case the subjective passing of time for the bottom will be very different from normal.

Terminating the Scene
Whether you go with Clingfilm, latex strips or Ace bandage, your mummified subject will eventually need to be set free. With plastic wrap or aluminium foil, all you need do is cut him free. Do this by placing your fingers between the mummification material and, using rounded safety scissors, follow the bodyline, making short cuts, pulling the material apart with your fingers. As soon as he's free, cover him with a blanket as the air will be cold, even in the summer. Don't expect him to be able to move right away because his joints will be stiff. Give him time to flex his muscles. Remove his mask, but have him keep his eyes closed. Have towelling to dry him, as he might be sweating profusely. Praise him and let him know he's pleased you.

Health and Safety
Follow the same rules as with any heavy bondage. Watch for
circulation problems as with rope, but be especially careful to keep all bonding materials away from the
subject's face unless you have arranged a breathing mechanism . Materials such as Clingfilm can easily cause suffocation if not used with extreme caution.

Safety Rules
Most of these rules can be adapted if the Top is knowledgeable and experienced enough. However, the following suggested 'rules' are very basic and do not incorporate other implements and toys used during the mummification scene such as gags, catheters or breathing tubes:

Always have safety scissors (with rounded blunt blades) on hand in case you need to quickly release the bottom from his mummification. This is never an easy task and it may be best to go for a limited form of mummification first to see how your bottom reacts to being totally restricted in this way

Leave both nasal and mouth passages open to ensure there are no breathing problems. Since he can't move, check often to be sure he does not begin to choke. If you want to wrap the head, you will need to have a system to facilitate breathing. One useful piece of apparatus is a piss gag, either with a firmly attached tube at least 25mm wide that extends out in front or with a hole to which you can attach such a tube. The tubing will extend beyond the mummifying layers, allowing complete bondage while maintaining safety. Most people also prefer to wrap the head in muslin or some other form of light cloth before adding Clingfilm

Ensure that the bottom has been given the opportunity to piss before the scene commences as this will be difficult once totally mummified. If you are well experienced in the technique required, you might also consider catheterising the bottom first, since there will be nowhere to piss once he or is enveloped totally

Place padding (such as cotton wool) between the bottom's knees and ankles if they touch when his legs are together (e.g. if he is not wearing boots) otherwise the tightness of the bindings will eventually cause unwanted discomfort

For longer scenes, offer water to the bottom periodically to prevent his dehydration due to excessive sweating. Have towels ready when you unwrap him.

If he begins to panic, especially when in a head mask, comfort and reassure him as you quickly uncover his eyes and remove the mask. Having him count slowly from 10 to 1 out loud may restore calmer breathing
